Pensions and Private Markets Briefing: Cut through the noise
Tuesday 4 March 2025, Central London
Last year, the government set out its ambition for UK pension schemes to invest more into UK and productive assets.
The Mansion House Compact was one of the initiatives to help achieve this aim, with some of the country’s largest defined contribution schemes pledging to allocate 5% of default fund assets to private markets and unlisted equities by 2030 .
The then Conservative government also looked to DB and LGPS reforms to help boost investment in UK and productive investment.
The new Labour administration has continued to look at this area. Chancellor Rachel Reeves used her maiden Mansion House Speech to chart a clear future for the UK’s DC and LGPS pension schemes. She announced the creation of megafunds for the fragmented LGPS system and minimum size requirements for multi-employer DC schemes.
These changes have been introduced to create greater efficiencies and returns across the pensions market through consolidation, whilst delivering on the greater investment potential of consolidated schemes. These developments seek to channel billions of pounds of scheme investments into the UK, targeting areas such as infrastructure and productive assets .
Professional Pensions Pensions and Private Markets Briefing will look at some of these key developments and discuss what the future holds for scheme investments in private markets as a result. Delegates will also have the chance to hear from world class investment professionals as they delve into private markets opportunities, benefits, and how to best access these markets. All whilst giving insights into the differing private market asset classes:
- Private equity
- Private credit
- Private real estate
- Infrastructure
Interactive sessions will offer perspectives on the benefits of these investments for members and how schemes can position themselves for the future.
