Guy Opperman

Guy Opperman served as MP for Hexham from 2010 to 2024 and most recently served as Minister for Roads and Local Transport from November 2023 to July 2024. He was previously Minister of State at the Department for Work and Pensions from 13 November 2023 to 27 October 2022, and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the same department from 14 June 2017 to 8 September 2022. He served as a Government Whip (Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury) from 12 May 2015 to 14 June 2017.

Guy has an Honours Degree in Law from the University of Buckingham and a first class diploma from the University of Lille, France. Guy was called to the Bar in 1989 and spent 20 years as a barrister - 15 years of which were spent predominantly at the criminal bar. Guy is an amateur jockey and rode his first win in 1985.
