Navigating the Future of Illiquids for DC Schemes
In the last decade, pension schemes of various structures have significantly increased allocations to illiquid assets. In contrast, UK DC schemes have been more cautious in entering the illiquid space. However, with the chancellor's Mansion House Compact, the stage is set for a substantial increase in illiquid assets. As this landscape evolves, what considerations should schemes bear in mind?
This session will address:
  • Potential pitfalls and overlooked investment risks
  • Lessons learnt from the September 2022 Mini Budget
  • Strategies for DC schemes to adjust portfolios, optimising risk-adjusted returns and enhancing resilience

How to successfully build a diversified private market solution

With barriers to investing in private markets eroding, DC schemes are increasingly looking to diversify their default proposition away from traditional asset classes. But in a DC context, building a diversified portfolio to achieve higher risk-adjusted returns and strengthen resilience may not be entirely straightforward. Asset allocation, implementation methods, cash management, valuation and risk management are among the key elements for Schemes and Trustees to consider.

With higher interest rates, scarcity of data, lower level of transparency, and potentially high dispersion of returns between private market asset classes and managers - we will look at the key aspects to consider in implementing a successful private markets proposition, and how DC schemes should position their portfolio to deliver on the expected excess returns from private markets.

Monetary Concerns: How can we help members save for an adequate pension?

Phase two of the new government’s pensions review promises to address retirement adequacy, but could this reveal a bleak picture given the ongoing cost of living crisis and recent recession putting strain on corporate and individual finances?

DC pension schemes face various challenges such as reduced member contributions, employer cutbacks, delayed retirements, suboptimal investment returns, and increased demand for flexible pension access.

This session will address:

  • How to translate good value into better outcomes
  • Understanding the adequacy position for your DC members and setting targets
  • Strategies for schemes to support members in prioritising and understanding the impact of pension contributions
  • Other ways to move the dial on pension outcomes
